The San Jose Sharks host the Anaheim Ducks in Game 3 of their first-round series. Here’s everything you need to know to watch.

The San Jose Sharks are the only Western Conference road team to win Games 1 and 2 of their first-round series in the Stanley Cup playoffs. It’s a particularly impressive feat, as their opponent, the Anaheim Ducks, have made the playoffs on 11 of 13 occasions since the 2004-05 lockout.

Game 1 was a night of individual performances. Evander Kane’s 2 goals and Martin Jones’ 25 save shutout were the central avenues through which the Sharks ushered forward a victory that stunned one of the most dedicated fanbases in the hockey world.

Game 2 illustrated the depth of each respective team. The Ducks established an early lead, but it was overtaken by a stunning scoring spree propelled by Logan Couture, Marcus Sorensen and Tomas Hertl. Both goaltenders were sound, but Jones’ 28 saves proved to be the difference maker.

The Ducks head into Game 3 facing circumstances that are among the most unfavorable in the league. The absence of Cam Fowler has left head coach Randy Carlyle in a position where he must place deep trust in Brandon Montour, Hampus Lindholm, Francois Beauchemin and Josh Manson. Each defender currently averages more than 20 minutes per night.

For the Ducks, missed opportunities must be a thing of the past. If they’re serious about winning the series, look for forwards to bury chances and defensemen to clock in tough minutes. The Sharks will look to capitalize upon an opportunity for the ages, as a win sets the stage for a sweep.
