The Houston Texans are putting on the full-court press to land Dez Bryant, who could give DeAndre Hopkins a nice compliment.

Last year, the Houston Texans stumbled to a 4-12 record after watching Deshaun Watson go down with a torn ACL midway through the campaign. This season, Houston is back with vengeance in its collective heart, looking to win the AFC South and do some damage in the playoffs.

To that end, the Texans have been somewhat aggressive this offseason, landing free safety Tyrann Mathieu to bolster the secondary. Now, Mathieu is doing his part in recruiting Dez Bryant to come to Houston, after he was released by the Dallas Cowboys on Friday afternoon.

Bryant, 29, is past his prime but could be an excellent second option in the passing game for Watson. DeAndre Hopkins is the clear star of the group, but buttressed by Bryant and speedster Will Fuller V, the Texans would have one of the league’s best receiving corps.

Speaking of Hopkins, the youngster is trying to get Bryant into the fold for a team with legitimate Super Bowl aspirations.

"“I love Dez. I looked up to him in college. I watched him a lot in college and high school. I’ve always been a fan of his. Why not reach out to a guy who can help a team win? He’s a great receiver.”"

Bryant could go the way of so many other high-profile free agents we’ve seen this winter and sign a one-year deal to reset his market. This was a ploy used by Sheldon Richardson, Muhammad Wilkerson, Ndamukong Suh and others, a risky one that could pay huge dividends.
