The saga of Kawhi Leonard appears to be at its peak, as a new report states that Leonard doesn’t communicate with the Spurs for weeks at a time.

Tight-knit systems can stand the test of time. Everyone in the organization knows their role, and in those roles, everyone is expected to flourish. But this season, the most well-run organization in basketball has on their hands something they haven’t had to deal with in quite some time — a distraction. Kawhi Leonard has missed all but nine games this season and won’t return for the playoffs. It appeared initially that Leonard’s holdout was strictly injury related. But as of late, it’s looking more and more that Leonard has issue with the franchise. The Sacramento Bee’s report on the saga will probably do more harm than good.

"The Spurs could probably swallow hard and work with that. One stethoscope does not fit all. But the Southern California native, who earns $20 million next season and is eligible for a supermax contract extension, has gone rogue, morphed from soft-spoken to silent. He occasionally texts with some of his teammates, but according to Gasol leaves others in the dark. And the fact he has been absent from San Antonio for weeks and is not expected to sit on the bench for Game 3?"

This is the type of problem the Spurs wanted to avoid. But all great dynasties usually must end. The Chicago Bulls had an ugly split with Phil Jackson after their sixth NBA championship. He had a similar split in 2004 after winning three titles with the Los Angles Lakers. We could also be witnessing the fall of the New England Patriots. It’s sad that things have come down to this for Leonard and the Spurs. But it will be interesting to see how the Spurs will handle this situation in the offseason.
