One of the most team-friendly deals in all of sports might be coming to a close. Tom Brady is looking for a new contract from the New England Patriots.

The New England Patriots currently have one of the biggest bargains in sports. They have star quarterback Tom Brady under contract at $14 million a year for the next two years, although that might not be the case for too much longer.

According to NFL insider Ian Rapaport, Brady is seeking a new contract before the start of the 2018 season.

Not only is Brady coming back, which seemed to be not as clear to some, but he could possibly return with a new contract. Thus, putting an end to an all-time great contract in terms of value.

According to Over The Cap, Tom Brady is the 16th-highest paid quarterback in the league. Even at the age of 40 last year, Brady gave the Patriots an MVP season. He threw for over 4,500 yards, 32 touchdowns and only eight interceptions while rocking a 66.3 completion percentage.

The MVP of the league was the 37th-highest paid player. The Patriots have been getting crazy value for that contract, and it makes sense for Brady to want a new deal.

In the past, the Patriots have extended Brady with two years remaining on the standing contract. So this new contract wouldn’t settle in until the 2020 season, also known as his age 43 season.

The only issue is how do you extend a quarterback, who is currently 40, for two years down the line? That’s what Robert Kraft and Bill Belichick are going to have to figure out in the near future.

It also seems likely that the Patriots will select a quarterback at some point in this year’s draft to be the heir apparent for Brady. Whether it’ll be in the first round or mid-rounds has yet to be seen but it’s certainly going to be an interesting offseason for the Patriots leading up to opening day 2018.
