Alabama spring game 2018: Players and storylines to watch
The defending national champion Alabama Crimson Tide will host their spring game on Saturday. Here’s what to watch for.
The 2017 season was yet another magical one for the Alabama Crimson Tide. After suffering heartbreak in the National Championship Game the year prior, Alabama came back in heroic fashion to win the title and defeated Georgia.
It was quite the ride to winning yet another National Championship. Jalen Hurts would be benched at the half of the game for Tua Tagovailoa. The latter would come in and light things up en route to leading his team to a big overtime victory.
Alabama had a season that was marked by big plays on the defensive side of the ball. Players like Minkah Fitzpatrick, Rashaan Evans, Da’Ron Payne and more contributed a big part toward bringing home a title. In 2018, new faces will step in and look to build to the next great Alabama team.
You can watch Alabama’s spring game on Saturday at 2 p.m. ET.
2018 Outlook
When the Crimson Tide win a national championship, they typically enter the next season as the favorites to win it all and for good reasons. In 2018, they’re going to be near the top of the rankings but they’ll face some serious competition with what Georgia is building.
The Bulldogs seem primed to make yet another run at the national championship and are the defending SEC Champions. While the Crimson Tide is coming off yet another title, they have several key players that they are going to replace.
It’s going to be time for a lot of the top talent that they have recruited to come in and step up. They’re losing most of their starting defense and will have guys that are waiting in the wings fill those spots.
This is the time of the year where coaches get a great look at what they’re working with before summer rolls along. This Saturday, the Crimson Tide will be having their annual spring game in Tuscaloosa.
The big question, of course, is going to be the quarterback competition between Tagovailoa and Jalen Hurts. Despite the fact that the former led the team to the win in the title game, he hasn’t been given the starting job yet. The consensus seems to be Hurts will transfer if he does not win it. Here’s what to watch for in spring for the Tide.
