Unpredictability is making these Eastern Conference playoffs spectacular

Finally a postseason as strange and unpredictable as a random Tuesday night in January! Yes, at Fastbreak Breakfast we’ve never made it a secret that we frequently prefer the dark recesses of an anonymous regular season game over the spotlight of the playoffs. The best-of-seven format often adds an air of inevitability that deadens the excitement. Like how Game of Thrones stopped being good when it became apparent they were done killing off main characters.

But so far this year’s postseason has delivered!  The Pelicans as a six seed are the only team to advance (via a sweep no less!) and three of the four series in the Eastern Conference are tied at 2-2. Not only that, the baby Sixers now have become the trendy pick to make the Finals in their first season of trying to win post-Process.

So on a new episode of Fastbreak Breakfast,  we celebrate the fun of the first round and also cover the following topics:

  • Does Nikola Mirotic regret forcing the second year of his contract to be guaranteed as a condition of his trade to the Pelicans?
  • Terry Stotts is finding himself on the coaching hot seat. Is he a victim of his own unanticipated success or did he make costly mistakes that are deserving of criticism?
  • Did the Pacers just miss out on their chance to win their series? Did we all just miss out on the chance for an iconic Lance Stephenson memory?
  • Where did this unexpected Thon Maker performance come from? Can he truly only perform in the playoffs?
  • Should Giannis Antetokounmpo have been allowed to cut line for a post-game meal??
