31. Pick Analysis. QB. USC. 2. Scouting Report. Sam Darnold. player

This would be the dream scenario for general manager Dave Gettleman and the new York Giants. New York desperately need to find an heir apparent for Eli Manning, because Davis Webb isn’t going to be that man. With Allen off the board, Sam Darnold, the most polished quarterback of anybody in the class, falls right into the Giants’ collective lap.

Darnold had some turnover issues at USC, but he remains the best pocket passer of the group alongside Josh Rosen. However, he also has zero character issues to boot, making him the top choice of most who analyze the draft from inside the NFL. The Giants would be thrilled to take him and have Darnold sit a year behind Manning.

Most importantly, it’s important to note that in the actual draft, New York is going to get a hoard of offers for this pick, The Giants could decide to move out if their steep price is met, or they could stand pat. The guess here is that if Darnold remains on the board, no amount of draft picks from an outside team would be able to leverage New York out of the spot. If Darnold goes to the Browns at No. 1, perhaps Gettleman is more willing to sell.
