The phrase “it only takes one team” is really, super-duper overused in sports discussions, but especially around draft time, it takes on a more profound and realistic meaning. Indeed it does take just one group of decision makers to decide, for instance, Jayson Tatum is a better prospect than Josh Jackson or Dennis Smith Jr.

Plenty of team and culture context are all wrapped up into a draft selection, but purely on paper, Sexton should go higher than this. A team like the Suns, Magic, Bulls, Hornets, Knicks or Kings could walk in and snag him before Los Angeles has a shot, but this is nevertheless where Sexton seems to fall on most popular draft boards. He very well could be snagged by pick No. 6 or 8.

It’s easier to sell a pick to your fans when they’re a productive player on a surprisingly competitive SEC team rather than someone like Zhaire Smith. With the memory of Chris Paul’s greatness still fresh in their minds, Clippers fans should feel good about the team addressing the elephant in the room at point guard instead of ignoring it. Sexton wants to the be “the guy”, and despite the presence of Milos Teodosic and Patrick Beverley, Sexton has shown he can earn it.
