The Broncos may have scored the steal of the 2018 NFL Draft but there were plenty of great picks in the first round. Here are our favorites.

Just like the NFL season, the NFL Draft features winners and losers. There were clear examples of both in the 2018 version of the NFL’s most interesting personnel event — the draft’s first round.

Heading into the first round, it seemed obvious that certain teams were going to overpay for the quarterback prospects they admired most. That meant teams who didn’t enter the Draft with a need to draft a signal caller were given a significant advantage. Those teams had the opportunity to select higher-rated players at other positions or trade down and secure a king’s ransom of picks in return.

It is a little surprising that one quarterback did manage to make my list of top five selections in round one. It seemed obvious the top four prospects would be overdrafted. In the end, a high-profile quarterback mini-slide did occur and resulted in a selection that could be highly valuable.

Other than that, high marks went to teams who stayed true to their draft charts and made selections regardless of position. Teams who spend early picks on areas of need have a nasty habit of reaching for lesser talent. Franchises who feel free to pick the best player available end up with better players.

Read on to discover the five teams that made the best picks in round one. There’s still plenty of work for them to do over the Draft’s last two days, but they are off to excellent starts.
