The Philadelphia Eagles selected Dallas Goedert in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Here’s all you need to know about Goedert, including our grade.

Strengths

To see Dallas Goedert on film is to realize that he is going to be an incredible pass-catching tight end at the next level. Goedert plays with the kind of finesse that  you do not see from a man his size, and he has put together quite the highlight reel during his time at South Dakota State. At 6-foot-5, 236 pounds, he is a matchup nightmare for defenders, and his game will definitely translate at the next level.

During the NFL Scouting Combine, Goedert showed how strong his is by benching 225 pounds 23 times. In game action, he shows how strong he is by going up and making acrobatic one-handed catches in traffic. He also is a good route runner, who is going to be a fantastic watch inside the red zone on Sundays.

Goedert is not only solid when going across the middle, but he also has good speed when going vertical. He is the kind of skilled player you need to scheme for, and he plays the game with tremendous passion.

Weaknesses

When it comes to Geodert, sometimes he can be a bit lazy in his route running. Not saying that he does not give his all on every play, but he has a hard time selling his routes at times. He also does not like to block with the same kind of passion that he likes to over the middle with, which can be an issue at times.

There is no doubting Goedert’s prowess as a pass-catching tight end, and he does make some terrific grabs. However, sometimes he needs to just focus on making the easy catch, and not try so much to go after things with one hand. However, he also has the kind of catching ability that you cannot teach, and that is going to go a long way at the next level.

When it comes to pass-catching tight ends, there is no better prospect in this draft. His weaknesses are few, and far between, and he is going to be an electric player from the tight end position in the NFL.
