2019 NFL Mock Draft: Browns select Nick Bosa at No. 1
By Brad Weiss
With the 2018 NFL Draft coming to a close on Saturday with Mr. Irrelevant, let us take a crack at a mock draft for the 2019 NFL Draft.
The 2018 NFL Draft was loaded with excitement, and the Cleveland Browns shocked the world by selecting Baker Mayfield first overall. With quarterbacks going early, and often, the draft set a record by having four quarterbacks selected in the top-10 picks.
As we turn the page on the 2018 draft, we begin to slowly turn our eyes to 2019. Most teams did a nice job filling holes in their roster over the three-day event, but we attempt to take an early look at what the 2019 draft class has to offer.
For the third year in a row, we start in Cleveland.
The Cleveland Browns have picked in the first spot in the first round for two straight seasons, going defense with Myles Garrett in 2017, and offense with Baker Mayfield in 2018. In addition to Mayfield at No. 1, the Browns also had the No. 4 pick, which they spent on cornerback Denzel Ward. By picking Ward, they passed up on Bradley Chubb, who many believed was the best edge rusher the draft class had to offer.
Looking forward to next season, the Browns figure to be better than their 0-16 record from 2017. However, they will be trying to work in Mayfield, who will have to beat out veteran Tyrod Taylor this summer for the starting quarterback job. This will be a season for learning in Cleveland, and the odds are they will find themselves with one of the worst records in football once again.
With their top pick in 2019, the Browns should go back to bolstering their defense. Garrett has proven to be a solid edge rusher since the team took him first overall in 2017, but he could use help in that department. Nick Bosa from Ohio State has incredible talent, a solid bloodline, and is the best defensive player this draft class has to offer.
