San Jose Sharks: Peter Deboer

The Sharks have been searching since their inception to break through and win their first Stanley Cup, and have just been unable to break through with the roster they’ve had. However, the Sharks have come close, and that has come under current head coach Peter Deboer.

Deboer was brought on board to San Jose to replace Todd MacLellan in at the end of 2015 after the Sharks blew a 3-0 lead to the L.A. Kings and missed the playoffs the following season. Deboer right away changed the locker room and led this team into third place in the Pacific for a return to the playoffs.

The Sharks faced off with the Kings once again, and this time exorcised their demons against the Kings from their last matchup with a five game win. The Sharks matched up with the Nsshville Predators in the next round, surviving a seven-game scare and taking Game 7 5-0 on home ice. The Sharks then won the Western Conference Finals against the St. Louis Blues in six games to advance to their first Stanley Cup Finals.

The Sharks faced the Pittsbugh Penguins in the Final, but couldn’t close the show and dropped the series in six to the Penguins. Still, this was the best season in Sharks history by far, something no previous coach could do in San Jose.

This year, the Sharks are right back in title contention and care locked in a tight sereis with the Vegas Golden Knights after sweeping the Ducks in the first round.
