First John Wall, now Kendrick Perkins. Drake is becoming the new Spike Lee of the NBA Playoffs.

Drake is on his way to becoming the new Spike Lee at Toronto Raptors games.

For those who grew up in the latter half of the 1990s and 2000s, Lee is the diehard New York Knicks fan who loved to make NBA players lose their cool thanks to his constant taunting. We’re not saying that Drake has reached the level Spike was on in his heyday (not yet, anyway), but during these NBA Playoffs, he’s inching ever so close.

During the Washington Wizards series, he famously talked trash to Wizards star John Wall, and while it was taken lightly, his on-court word-a-thons haven’t slowed down. At halftime of Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals between the Raptors and the Cleveland Cavaliers, cameras caught Drake and Cavs backup center Kendrick Perkins having “words.”

This wasn’t a playful thing, either, as Drake and Perkins had to be restrained by the Cavs.

The whole incident was truly bizarre, to say the least. It’s not clear what started the dust-up, but one thing that is becoming obvious — Drake, who is the Global Ambassador for his hometown Raptors, takes his job promoting and defending his team very, very seriously. As long as they’re not playing the Golden State Warriors.

Spike Lee made a name for himself not only with his films but also by becoming a gnat to opposing players when they visited Madison Square Garden in the mid-1990s, and especially his rivalry with Reggie Miller. If Drake keeps up the act of getting into it with opposing players when they visit Air Canada Center, it will only be a matter of time before he becomes a part of the game for opponents.
