Third Base, High End Spend

Alex Bregman, $3,900

.000/.200/.000 with 0 HR in 4 at-bats

Another repeat from yesterday, Bregamn finds himself in an even better spot tonight…if you believe the sample size of last year is more important than this year. Last season, Bregman had a .331 average, .974 OPS and a .406 wOBA. This year, those numbers have dropped to .219, .567 OPS and a .259 wOBA. Yankee starter Jordan Montgomery isn’t a matchup we should run away from and Bregman could start to show off against lefties again as soon as tonight. I fall into the camp that the 162 plate appearances in 2017 mean more than the 35 in 2018. Houston’s offense can explode any give night, including this evening.

Also Consider – Christian Villanueva, $3,900

Mid-Range

Matt Chapman, $3,400

.000/.143/.000 with 0 HR in 6 at-bats

Seattle starter Felix Hernandez isn’t as good as he used to be and Chapman sees right handed pitching pretty well, with an .869 OPS and a .374 wOBA. Five of his six homers have come against righty pitching so far this year. Hernandez has too low of a HR/FB ratio for the other metrics he has right now and Chapman is a premier threat to take him out of the yard. Chapman has an insane 46.4 hard contact rate and a matching 43.6 flay ball rate in 2018. Those are very dangerous for Hernandez considering how he’s pitching at this point.

Also Consider – Eugenio Suarez, $3,300

Value

Luis Valbuena, $2,500

.333/.333/.833 with 1 HR in 6 at-bats

To be perfectly clear, Valbuena is not a good fantasy baseball player. His average, OPS and wOBA against righties aren’t something that we would normally look at because they’re terrible. There’s only two reasons we’re interested tonight. The first one is he’s cheap and can fit in a high end pitcher. Secondly, Valbuena gets to face righty Alex Cobb who still hasn’t found his way this season. Against righties, Cobb is giving up a .545 average, 1.326 OPS and a .564 wOBA. Obviously, those numbers will have to come down at some point. It’s till well worth the risk to attack Cobb tonight with any cheap bat we can find.

Also Consider – Jedd Gyorko, $2,800
