MILWAUKEE, WI – APRIL 22: Christian Yelich #22 and Lorenzo Cain #6 of the Milwaukee Brewers celebrate with teammates after Yelich hit a home run in the fourth inning against the Miami Marlins at Miller Park on April 22, 2018 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. (Photo by Dylan Buell/Getty Images) /

Outfielder, High End Spend

Mike Trout, $5,400

.583/.643/1.083 with 2 HR in 12 at-bats

It may not be feasible to pay for Scherzer and Trout in the same lineup but one of the best players in baseball is in a great spot for a big game tonight. We’ve already touched on the struggles of Alex Cobb with some cheaper bats. Trout is the best play from the Angels without any question. He’s priced like it too which is why most lineups will have the cheaper players. True has been on fire to start the year and carries a 1.001 OPS and a .424 wOBA against righties. He’s also making hard contact a whopping 45.5 percent of the time and hitting a fly ball half the time he makes contact. It’s no wonder he already has 10 home runs.

Also Consider – Bryce Harper, $4,600 and Tommy Pham, $4,200

Mid-Range

Christian Yelich, $3,600

.286/.444/.429 with 0 HR in 7 at-bats

The Brewers get to face Homer Bailey tonight, who just isn’t a good pitcher anymore. He’s not quite the gas can that many thought to start the year but Yelich is a “safer” play because he can do it all. He’s a good on-base player who can steal a bag here and there and his price should be higher than it is. Bailey has controlled lefty bats to a reasonable degree so far, giving up just a .334 wOBA. Yelich hasn’t gotten it going quite yet to the extent he’s capable of. Any of the Brewer outfielders are viable tonight, including Lorenzo Cain and Ryan Braun. Braun actually owns Bailey through 47 career at-bats.

Also Consider – Marcell Ozuna, $3,300, Jose Pirela, $2,800 and David Dahl, $3,000

Value

Kole Calhoun, $2,100

.200/.429/.400 with 0 HR in 5 at-bats

This might come as a surprise because Calhoun has just been dreadful so far this year. There’s nothing in his batting average or OPS or wOBA to really suggest he could have a great game. It’s more a matter of cheap exposure to the Angels offense against one of the worst pitchers in baseball this year. Calhoun has a much better track record against righties than he’s shown so far this year and maybe he wakes up a little bit tonight if Cobb continues to struggle.
