Early Slate – Blue Jays at Twins

Blue Jays Probable Starter – Marcus Stroman, RHP

8.88 ERA, 1.82 WHIP 8.88 K/9

Vs LHH – .319 average, .375 wOBA 48.2 hard contact rate

Vs RHH – .237 average, .354 wOBA 46.2 hard contact rate

To say Stroman hasn’t been a very good pitcher this year would be a massive understatement. He’s been getting blistered all season…and yet there’s reason for hope. His groundball rate is actually up from his career average and that’s his calling card. His K/9 would be a career high, although it’s relatively pedestrian to the rest of the league. The hard contact rate is spiked which could be leading to most of his issues. It doesn’t do any good to get a ground ball if it’s getting scorched. Is Stroman better than what his stats show? Almost surely but that doesn’t mean we can’t attack him with some lefty bats today. It’s worth noting that Minnesota has one of the lowest ground ball rates in baseball this year.

Twins Hitters to Target

Elite Options – Joe Mauer, Logan Morrison

Secondary Options – Max Kepler, Eddie Rosario, Brian Dozier

Twins Probable Starter – Fernando Romero, RHP

Major League Debut

Romero faces a bit of a tall order in facing the Blue Jays for his first start. They don’t hit for a high average against righties but they are in the top 12 in almost every other major offensive category. Romero is a ground ball pitcher when looking at his minor league track record. Until we know what type of pitcher he could be at the major league level, I’ll probably settle for attacking him with lefty bats and maybe a righty here or there.

Blue Jays Hitters to Target

Elite Options – Curtis Granderson, Justin Smoak, Yangervis Solarte

Secondary Options – Teoscar Hernandez

Home Run Pick – Logan Morrison
