DraftKings Main MLB Picks May 3: Is Manaea worth the high price?
There are 11 games today. The early tournament is the larger one today. We only have four games in the “main” tournament because the weird start time of the second game of the double dip between Toronto and Cleveland has that only available in pick em tournaments. There isn’t a lot for bargain pitchers here tonight. Let’s see what we can put together.

Rain is likely throughout the night in Chicago, so they will be lucky to get that game in. There is a chance of rain in Arlington, but the game should be played. There just may be a delay. Wind is only a factor in Texas, where it will be blowing in from right at 15 mph.
We will provide you with several options to build your lineup here. Want to spend all your money on pitchers and play bargain bats? We will highlight who is worth the money. Want to punt arms and pay up for the big boppers? We can help you with that as well, and everything in between!
These tips are based mostly on past performance. This is a nice tool for building a lineup, but should not be the only pieces of information you use. Stacking against a bad pitcher is always a good idea!

Top Tier:
Sean Manaea ($11,200): You have to take a leap of faith to be comfortable with Manaea tonight. The Mariners are hitting a decent .245 off of him in 110 at bats, but they have four homers and 16 runs with only 22 strikeouts. That said, Manaea has pitched very well against Houston and Boston in his last two games. If he can no hit the Red Sox, he can handle the Mariners. If Manaea is on tonight, he is going to outscore everyone by a large margin.
David Price ($9,700): You are just going to have to hear me out on this one. This matchup looks great on paper with Texas suffering a rash of injuries. What is left of the Rangers is still hitting a robust .296 against David Price in 54 at bats with two homers and five runs. However, they have struck out 15 times. Price is a really good option here again considering he has a 2.29 ERA on the road this year compared to 5.93 at home.
Middle Tier:
Garrett Richards ($9,200): Part of the allure of Richards tonight is the fact that his teammates get to tee off on Chris Tillman. The Orioles are hitting a strong .327 against Richards in 55 at bats, but they only have two homers and four runs to go with 12 strikeouts. That isn’t to say the Orioles aren’t worth using against Richards, but you are far better off stacking Angels than Orioles. Richards getting a win should be a byproduct of that.
Reynaldo Lopez ($7,600): Lopez has never faced the Twins before, and he is catching them at a pretty good time. They are without Miguel Sano and Byron Buxton, so the offense isn’t nearly as potent as it could be. Lopez has had a little bit of a rough go of it the last two games as far as giving up hits and not striking hitters out. That has limited his upside, but Lopez is still a decent SP2 option against Minnesota here.
Bargain Pitchers:
Jake Odorizzi ($6,800): Only five current White Sox players have faced Odorizzi before. They are only hitting .217 against Odorizzi with only one run and four strikeouts with no extra base hits. The White Sox, for all of their success on offense this season, are still average against righties. There is potential here.
Top Tier:
It’s Red Sox stack night, and Hanley Ramirez is at the forefront of that. Hanley is 3-10 with two walks, a homer, two runs, and three RBI in his career against Mike Minor. If Sandy Leon winds up behind the plate again, he is 1-2 with a double, a run, and a RBI against Minor.
Middle Tier:
Joe Mauer is one of the more consistent players in the Twins lineup. He doesn’t really hit for power anymore, but his DraftKings point average is still a strong 7.4. He is worth a look against the youngster Reynaldo Lopez.
Albert Pujols is 4-15 with two doubles and two RBI in his career against Chris Tillman. Luis Valbuena has been even better. Valbuena is 4-11 with two walks, two doubles, a homer, two runs, and two RBI in his career against Chris Tillman.
Bargain Shoppers:
If you are from the camp that is expecting a letdown from Sean Manaea, Mike Zunino is 2-6 with a walk and a solo homer off of Manaea.
Jonathan Lucroy is only 1-5 in his career against Wade LeBlanc, but the hit is a two run homer.
Those who rolled with Logan Morrison yesterday and his lofty career numbers against Marcus Stroman were rewarded with a modest five DraftKings points. LoMo is the only Twin that has ever faced Reynaldo Lopez, and he is 2-3 with a homer and three RBI off of him. If you need to go cheap, this is a good place to if you are avoiding Red Sox chalk.
Top Tier:
Xander Bogaerts is 1-4 with a double in his career against Mike Minor. His teammates rocked the Rangers yesterday with a weak lefty on the hill. Bogaerts was solid, but his stats paled in comparison to Betts and Martinez. Still, if you have the money, Bogaerts is a good add to the stack.
Manny Machado is 4-10 with a walk, a solo homer, and three runs in his career against Garrett Richards. Not to mention that Machado is hitting just about anything thrown towards him lately. Manny is hitting .429 with four homers and nine RBI in the last ten games.
Jed Lowrie and Marcus Semien are always worth a look with a lefty on the mound. Neither of them have any counting stats in limited at bats against Wade LeBlanc, but the potential is there.
Middle Tier:
Yoan Moncada is worth a look against anyone lately. Just make sure that his hamstring doesn’t hold him out of the game. Tim Anderson is an okay pick against Odorizzi, but you can likely do better for the price.
Ian Kinsler should be worth every penny tonight. Kinsler is 8-26(.308) with two walks, a double, two homers, three runs, and four RBI in his career against Chris Tillman. Andrelton Simmons is only 2-7 against Tillman, but he has two walks, a homer, and two RBI.
Bargain Shoppers:
Gregorio Petit is 3-7 since Miguel Sano went down. If you need to go cheap, this is a really good place to do so. The Twins are priced like they are facing an ace instead of a promising youngster.

Top Tier:
Mookie Betts hit three homers yesterday against Matt Moore. Another weak lefty is being thrown out there as shark bait to the Sox again. Of course I’m on Mookie here, and J.D. Martinez. Martinez hit a three run homer in his only plate appearance against Mike Minor. He could have the three homer day tonight!
The current A’s haven’t hit Wade LeBlanc often, but they have hit him hard. Khris Davis is 2-3 with a homer and two RBI against LeBlanc in his career.

Middle Tier:
Most of the damage done by the Rangers to David Price has been done by one player. Ryan Rua? He hits lefties hard, but no. Rua is a solid 2-6 against Price but has no counting stats. Shin-Soo Choo has done almost all of the damage, going 10-27(.370) with a walk, a double, two homers, four runs, and five RBI against Price. The rest of the team is just 6-27(.222) with no homers and no RBI.
Despite how good Manaea has been lately, I’m still really thinking about Nelson Cruz. Cruz is 6-16(.375) with five walks, two homers, and six RBI in his career against Manaea so far. Guillermo Heredia is worth a look if he plays. Heredia is 5-15 with three walks, a double, two runs, and two RBI against Manaea so far.
Daniel Palka may be worth a look if he starts against a righty again. He burst onto the scene with three hits in back to back games against the Royals, but has gone quiet again.
Eddie Rosario smacked two homers against Marcus Stroman yesterday. He and Max Kepler are worth a look on the south side against Reynaldo Lopez tonight.
Bargain Shoppers:
Adam Jones is really cheap tonight, and he is 5-14 with a double, a homer, two runs, and three RBI in his career against Garrett Richards.
You may want to jump on Justin Upton or Mike Trout against Chris Tillman, but that may not be a great idea. Trout and Upton are a combined 3-18 with one homer and three RBI against Tillman. Kole Calhoun is 3-8 with four walks, a double, a homer, three runs, and two RBI off of him, and comes at a fraction of the price.
