FanDuel Lineup and Picks for Thursday, May 3
Braves at Mets
Braves Probable Starter – Julio Teheran, RHP
4.50 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 8.70 K/9
Vs LHH – .235 average, .365 wOBA and 45.0 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .237 average, .337 wOBA and 31.7 hard contact rate
Teheran has been riding the roller coaster this season. His first two starts, he got whacked by the Phillies and Nationals. After that, he had a string of three straight starts where he went at least six innings and gave up no more than two earned runs. He left his last start early but appears to be healthy enough to go today. There’s not doubt he’s a very risky option for cash game but he’s worth a draft throw in tournaments. It’s also worth noting that Teheran has a pretty solid track record against the Mets. I tend to take that a bit more seriously when it’s against a divisional opponent. The Mets see him more often and still haven’t been able to find much success. This could be a spot where we mostly stay away from the pitcher and most of the hitters. The small slate likely means we’ll have to pick and choose a little bit. It’s just not totally comfortable because if Teheran is on his game, the Mets are in trouble.
Mets Hitters to Target
Elite Options – Michael Conforto, Yoenis Cespedes
Secondary Options – Asdrubal Cabrera, Jay Bruce, Brandon Nimmo
Mets Probable Starter – Jason Vargas, LHP
* All Stats are just from one start
22.09 ERA, 3.27 WHIP and 12.27 K/9
Vs LHH – .286 average, .455 wOBA and 40.0 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .538 average, .632 wOBA and 60.0 hard contact rate
Vargas has only had one start this season which went extremely poorly. He was better last season but not someone I’d totally dodge. The Braves have absolutely destroyed lefty pitching in 2018 and they’re in a total smash spot today. Ozzie Albies is almost stone cold lock as he has a .717 wOBA and a 1.708 OPS against lefties. From there, Ronald Acuna, Nick Markakis and Kurt Suzuki are all excellent plays. Even Freddie Freeman is in play despite a lefty on lefty matchup. I definitely have a big interest in the Braves today. until Jason Vargas shows that he’s remotely close to his 2017 form, it’s all hands on deck against him. Johan Camargo could be the key to unlocking the rest of the Braves. He hits lefties well in a limited sample size and he’s only $2,100.

Home Run Pick – Ozzie Albies and Ronald Acuna(I can’t emphasize how bad this spot is for Vargas on paper)
