The Boston Celtics turned in a terrific Game 1 performance, and now they look to go up 2-0 over the Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday night.

The Boston Celtics entered their second-round series against the Philadelphia 76ers as a significant underdog. But as they have all season, the Celtics flipped the script in Game 1 and sent a message to the 76ers that this would be no picnic.

Terry Rozier, Al Horford and Jayson Tatum combined for 83 points to make up for the absence of Jaylen Brown in a 117-101 victory on Monday. Boston hit 17 3-pointers in the triumph, with Rozier canning seven of those on nine attempts.

Rozier’s play at home in the playoffs has been comparable to that of a healthy Kyrie Irving, if not better. Scary Terry is averaging 23.4 points, 6.2 assists and 4.8 rebounds while shooting 52.6 percent overall and 56.8 percent from 3 in five postseason games at TD Garden. Rozier’s road numbers are awful, but the damage he has done at home has been enough to get the Celtics in this position and is a good sign for Game 2.

Horford has also been a flamethrower at home. After putting up 26 points on 10-of-12 shooting in Game 1, he’s averaging 22.8 points on 66.7 percent shooting in those five home games. He made 23 of 29 field goal attempts in the last two games.

Tatum set a new playoff career high with 28 points and has gone over 20 points in each of the last three games.

The Sixers’ defense, which is normally elite, will have to do a much better job tracking the Celtics’ shooters and making Boston’s offense more uncomfortable in general. The possible return of Brown from his hamstring injury for Game 2 won’t make things any easier.

Philly will also need to hit some 3-pointers of its own. The Sixers shot 5 of 26 from distance in Game 2, and Joel Embiid accounted for two of those triples. The big man went off for 31 points, 13 rebounds and five assists, but he didn’t get nearly enough help.

Ben Simmons put up decent numbers with 18 points, seven rebounds and six assists, though he also coughed the ball up seven times and was serenaded by the Celtics faithful with “not a rookie” chants.  It was a rough night for Philly.

The Celtics likely won’t shoot the lights out again like they did in Game 1, but they’ve been incredible on their home court in these playoffs and still haven’t lost there. It’s going to take a much more focused and disciplined effort from the Sixers to end that streak and send this series to Philly tied at 1-1.
