The Hornets, Bucks, Magic and Hawks are all in the market for a new head coach.

The NBA ;layoffs are in full swing, but there’s other business going on in the NBA as well. Chiefly, four franchises need to identify new head coaches before their summer programs really begin.

The Knicks’ job came off the board yesterday with the hiring of David Fizdale, but that still leaves four openings to be filled. Atlanta, Milwaukee, Orlando and Charlotte are all in different stages of their respective coaching searches. Each team is looking for something a little different based on where they are in their NBA life cycles.

Of course, there’s always the possibility that another opening or two could pop up. An ugly playoff exit could throw a coach’s job in jeopardy pretty quickly. Dwane Casey would be really well-served to avoid a sweep at the hand of the Cavaliers.

There are a few teams who don’t seem to be really convinced with their current coach as well. Portland should hold on to Terry Stotts but there have been rumblings he may be fired by the Trail Blazers. Doc Rivers is always a risk to leave the Clippers. Lastly, the Stan Van Gundy saga in Detroit is far from over. The four jobs that are open right now may not be every opportunity that’s open behind the scenes.

This piece will examine which potential openings are better than others. Our rankings will take a variety of factors into account. The talent and flexibility of the respective rosters will be at the top of the list. The (in)stability of the team’s front offices will also factor in heavily. Enjoy the rankings of the NBA coaching vacancies starting with the least attractive opportunity.
