WWE Backlash 2018: Preview and predictions

WWE Intercontinental Championship Match
Seth Rollins (c) vs. The Miz
In what has to be a filler match, eight-time WWE Intercontinental Champion The Miz is looking to make history at WWE Backlash this Sunday by tying Chris Jericho for the most reigns in history. He’s only about three weeks short of also becoming the record-holder for most combined days with the IC title as well so another reign would also help that out. Bad news, Miz fans. Not happening.
The whole problem with this match is how it’s been booked. On any other occasion, I’d be happy to watch Seth Rollins vs. The Miz. I think they’ll put on a fun match but there’s no drama to it. It’s just sort of there. Everyone is wanting to see either The Miz vs. Daniel Bryan or Seth Rollins vs. Finn Balor, which would make more sense here given the finish of the match at Greatest Royal Rumble, which was absolutely fantastic with Rollins leaping onto the ladder and stealing the title away from Balor. Great stuff there. But the former champ gets his automatic rematch and here we are.
Prediction: There’s zero chance that The Miz gets the title back. ZERO! That’s the issue of having a SmackDown guy battling for a RAW title. Either move the Superstar Shakeup back a little bit or get some of these rematches in before you do too much. The matches at Greatest Royal Rumble actually made sense. You had blue vs. red going in both mid-card title bouts and you could shuffle if you wanted to do so. But that’s not the case here. Monday Night Rollins retains.
