1. Sign Tyreke Evans

The Pistons likely won’t have a first round pick to use this summer which means their mid-level exception will be their best way to acquire more talent. Tyreke Evans could be a perfect bridge between Detroit’s veteran core and their young talent.

It’s not an exaggeration to say that Evans had the best year of his career in Memphis. He signed a one-year deal with the Grizzlies and played like an All-Star despite the dysfunction surrounding him. He flashed the ability to both create his own shots and hit perimeter jump shots at a high clip.

If Detroit was able to add him to their starting lineup he could give them a really intriguing offensive attack. His ability to handle the ball in the pick-and-roll could be a great fit next to Griffin and Andre Drummond. Evans’ 3-point shooting ability could also help alleviate the lack of spacing that can plague the Pistons’ starting five.

There will be a lot of interest in signing this summer, but the Pistons will be one of only a handful of teams that can offer the full MLE. They should commit all of it to Evans. He’s the best reasonable free agent they can sign who can help them now and in the future.
