3. Swansea win 10-0 but Southampton draw with Manchester City

Swansea enjoyed a brief revival when Carlos Carvalhal took over but since then it’s been all doom and gloom for the Welsh side. By losing to Southampton on Tuesday, they all but guaranteed their place in the Championship next season.

The only way Swansea can survive is if they win by a 10-goal margin and Southampton lose to Manchester City. The latter part seems quite likely, but the former is almost impossible — this really would be the greatest of all escapes.

It’s more fun to entertain the idea than just completely disregard it. Swansea can come out and play on Sunday when they host Stoke at the Liberty Stadium. Who knows what could happen if they get a few early goals?

Stoke are already down themselves and it’s hard to see them being that up for this match, although they could want to end the season on a high themselves. The Swans need to focus on their own game.

The Welsh side haven’t played wonderfully this season but this weekend they’ll play the best game of their lives, win by 10 goals only for Southampton to spoil the party by drawing with Manchester City.

That would sum up Swansea’s season quite well, as they’ve impressed at points but not shown enough consistency to stay in England’s top flight.
