FanDuel Lineup and Picks for Friday, May 11
Nationals at Diamondbacks
Nationals Probable Starter – Max Scherzer, RHP
1.74 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 13.94 K/9
Vs LHH – .181 average, .263 wOBA and 25.7 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .147 average, .192 wOBA and 46.7 hard contact rate
I will basically never play any hitters against a pitcher like Scherzer and tonight will be no different. Arizona actually has a sneaky poor strikeout rate against righties and Scherzer could really mow them down. He’s the most expensive pitcher on the board and he should be. Scherzer is as close to a guarantee as you can get in baseball. It’s just a matter of can we afford hitters that we like enough to play him because there’s no other reason not to.
Diamondbacks Hitters to Target
Elite Options – None
Secondary Options – None
Diamondbacks Probable Starter – Matt Koch, RHP
2.13 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 6.04 K/9
Vs LHH – .160 average, .248 wOBA and 35.9 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .250 average, .324 wOBA and 47.1 hard contact rate
I’ve tried to attack Koch in just about every start so far and have regretted it just about every time. He’s not usable due to his lack of strikeouts but I certainly won’t be stacking up every National in sight either. Trea Turner might be the most interesting option as he’s on the right side of the splits and is just $3,800, which is cheap for Turner. This is another game that has mostly been crossed off, with Scherzer being the clear best option available.
Nationals Hitters to Target
Elite Options – Bryce Harper, Trea Turner
Secondary Options – Matt Adams, Anthony Rendon
Home Run Pick – Anthony Rendon
Twins at Angels
Twins Probable Starter – Lance Lynn, RHP
7.28 ERA, 1.96 WHIIP and 10.01 K/9
Vs LHH – .348 average, .468 wOBA and 32.4 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .263 average, .349 wOBA and 41.7 hard contact rate
Lynn had been getting rocked all season long up until his last start against the White Sox when he was actually very productive. While Lynn has never been this bad before in his entire career, he’s in a pretty poor spot tonight. He’s facing a tough offense that ranks fifth against fastballs this season. Lynn throws his fastball almost 80 percent of the time. That’s not a good mix and something has to give tonight. The fact that the Angels are righty heavy doesn’t concern me all that much.
Angels Hitters to Target
Elite Options – Mike Trout, Justin Upton, Shohei Ohtani(if he hits)
Secondary Options – Albert Pujols, Ian Kinsler
Angels Probable Starter – Tyler Skaggs, LHP
3.08 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 9.24 K/9
Vs LHH – .167 average, .215 wOBA and 33.3 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .255 average, .288 wOBA and 35.4 hard contact rate
If Skaggs was just a little cheaper, he would be really interesting on this slate. At $8,200 you really needs things to go perfect to make any profit on that price. Skaggs seems like he might be putting things together but he’s only hit the quality start mark in two of seven starts so far this year. Minnesota does carry a top 10 strikeout rate against lefties although they’re average or better in a lot of other categories. Skaggs is a big time boom or bust play tonight.
Twins Hitters to Target
Elite Options – Brian Dozier, Eduardo Escobar
Secondary Options – Byron Buxton
Home Run Pick – Justin Upton
