Neither Tottenham nor Leicester have much to play for on the final day of the Premier League season. Spurs already clinched a birth in the Champions League next season by beating Newcastle 1-0 midweek. While a top four finish and no trophies for another season may not be exciting, for a club like Tottenham, finishing in a Champions League spot consistently is an achievement in and of itself. Harry Kane had another fantastic goal scoring campaign, and with a few new signings in the summer Spurs could theoretically challenge for the title next year.
Leicester beat Arsenal 3-1 in midweek to ensure a top half finish, which seemed in doubt early on in the season before Claude Puel took over. Although this game will not provide any sort of, well, anything, for the Foxes, beating a top four side is always a positive. There’s not a whole lot else going on thanks to Spurs’ win midweek. There’s no battle for top four, position posturing or threat of relegation. Hopefully this will allow for a free-flowing, open match with no reservations. Otherwise, the viewers are in for a dull match that doesn’t matter in the slightest.
