FanDuel Lineup and Picks for Tuesday, May 15
Dodgers at Marlins
Dodgers Probable Starter – Alex Wood, LHP
3.60 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 8.40 K/9
Vs LHH – .289 average, .301 wOBA, 14.8 fly ball percent and 31.0 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .191 average, .239 wOBA, 35.3 fly ball percent and 35.9 hard contact rate
Another pitcher that could wind up doing very little for you but could also hit 40+ points tonight is Alex Wood. The Marlins actually carry one of the lowest strikeout rates against lefties in baseball, which can be a little scary in deploying Wood tonight. He’s only gone past six innings once all season so things need to go well for him to rack up his points in a short order. The Marlins don’t have a ton of hitters to scare you power wise, other than Justin Bour and J.T. Realmuto. Wood is in the discussion as a pitcher to play although he’s not the safest.
Marlins Hitters to Target
Elite Options – None
Secondary Options – J.T. Realmuto, Justin Bour
Marlins Probable Starter – Wei-Yen Chen, LHP
10.22 ERA, 1.95 WHIP and 4.35 K/9
Vs LHH – .231 average, .410 wOBA, 55.6 fly ball rate and 33.3 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .342 average, .542 wOBA, 55.9 fly ball rate and 38.9 hard contact rate
The Dodgers offense will almost certainly be fairly popular tonight even on a monster slate. Chen has started three games since returning since injury and they’ve gotten progressively worse each time out. The last start saw Chen get tagged for nine earned runs against the Cubs. the results likely won’t be that bad this time around but I’m still gonna have some interest in Dodgers this evening. Max Muncy carries a .352 wOBA against lefties so far this year and is just $2,200 on FanDuel. Justin Turner is expected to be activated from the DL today and is only $3,000 as well.
Dodgers Hitters to Target
Elite Options – Max Muncy, Matt Kemp, Yasmani Grandal
Secondary Options – Cody Bellinger, Yasiel Puig, Justin Turner
Home Run Pick – Matt Kemp
A’s at Red Sox
A’s Probable Starter – Daniel Mengden, RHP
4.06 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 6.70 K/9
Vs LHH – .181 average, .199 wOBA, 45.1 fly ball rate and 38.9 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .313 average, .387 wOBA, 27.6 fly ball rate and 40.3 hard contact rate
There’s basically no chance that I would use Mengden in Fenway Park against this offense, so let’s talk about what kind of bats we want to use against him. Unsurprisingly, the leader in wOBA against righty pitching for Boston is Mookie Betts. He’s in play literally every single night at this point. Since Mengden has struggled so mightily with righty hitters so far, that’s likely where I want to focus my attention on. That leaves us with J.D Martinez and Xander Bogaerts near the top of the wOBA leaderboard for Boston. However, left hitter Mitch Moreland ranks second on the list and he’s firmly in play at $3,500.
Red Sox Hitters to Target
Elite Options – Mookie Betts, J.D. Martinez, Mitch Moreland
Secondary Options – Xander Bogaerts, Hanley Ramirez
Red Sox Probable Starter – Eduardo Rodriguez, LHP
4.58 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 11.33 K/9
Vs LHH – .111 average, .251 wOBA, 54.5 fly ball rate and 27.3 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .230 average, .305 wOBA, 43.9 fly ball rate and 31.7 hard contact rate
Rodriguez is the textbook definition of a GPP play tonight. His strikeout upside is very tempting, especially under $8,000. He just shut down the Yankees in New York his last time out and the Oakland offense is worse than that against lefties. Mark Chana and Chad Pinder are the best A’s hitters by wOBA against lefties, with Pinder being the much better play by price point. Even if you believe that Rodriguez is a solid play, Pinder is a great way to save salary if you pay up for the higher priced pitchers on the slate.
A’s Hitters to Target
Elite Options – Chad Pinder, Mark Chana, Marcus Semien
Secondary Options – Matt Chapman, Jed Lowrie, Kris Davis
Home Run Pick – Chad Pinder
