An earthquake strikes, as Ethan West’s investigation attempts to restrict Tom Kirkman’s Presidency to one term only on Designated Survivor.

President Kirkman’s term in the White House hangs in the balance on tonight’s Designated Survivor, as Ethan West utilizes his investigation into Cornelius Moss’ leaks to turn into a power play. Former President Cornelius Moss announced his bid for the next election with the Republican party last episode after they were unable to bring on Kirkman as the incumbent. Meaning, now any revelation about Moss’ leaks will turn into political fodder, looking at by the public as a front to discredit Moss bid against him.

We saw Chief of Staff Emily Rhodes go down due to sniper fire in her apartment as a cliffhanger last episode. It appeared Rhodes went down to the window shattering rather than a bullet critically injuring her, but it’s not known if she’s hurt at this time. Kendra Daynes had just called her after being told she needs to be watched by Secret Service Agent Mike Ritter after her own apartment was ransacked. It turned out the whole ordeal was a distraction in order to take out a criminal, one that Daynes had granted witness protection to earlier in her career.

Things had looked up for Daynes too, as it appeared the whole situation was past and brought her and Trey Kirkman to bond. The pair had just agreed to go on another date and not let the apartment incident make their romance into a one night stand. Rather, rekindling it.

“Run” teaser trailer

An earthquake sets off a tsunami on tonight’s Designated Survivor. Both White House Political Director Lyor Boone and Press Secretary Seth Wright are caught in the aftermath … but Seth has gone missing. President Kirkman has already seen his staff under duress with White House Counsel Kendra Daynes and Emily Rhodes (and Agent Hannah Wells leaving her post), now two more members of his administration are in trouble.

Pretty soon, just National Security Advisor Aaron Shore will be left to work without third party intervention/crisis (including acts of nature). Nothing is going right for the Kirkman administration at this stage.

President Kirkman vs. Ethan West sneak peek

Tom Kirkman’s legacy in the White House is about to be derailed via Ethan West’s accusations of Hannah Wells misdeeds. Though President Kirkman was not directly involved with “witness tampering and obstruction of justice,” it appears Wells can be called as doing such. Since Agent Wells was working for President Kirkman’s administration, West’s criminal connection sounds legitimate. Whether real or imagined, the correlation will be readily apparent to the public. Moss was right after all about the Pandora’s box being opened. Pitting two enemies against each other has clearly backfired for President Kirkman.

Now, the Democratic/Republican parties have asked Tom Kirkman to just finish out his term and not run again. Citing it as “what’s best for the American people,” and obviously, what’s best for them. Will Kirkman give in to his political opponents and pressure by West? Perhaps, utilizing the Democratic party and losing the independent status might be his best card to play in light of the accusations. Going at it alone is not working in his favor, just as Lyor Boone had warned him.
