Robinson Cano is injured and now suspended, so here are five options to replace him off your fantasy baseball waiver wire.

Going back to 2007 Robinson Cano has been as reliable and productive as it gets at second base, in real and fantasy baseball terms. Over his first 39 games this season he was on track for another good season, with a .287/.385/.441 slash-line, four home runs, 23 RBI and 24 runs scored over 169 plate appearances.

But after suffering a broken fifth metacarpal in his right hand when he was hit by a pitch last Sunday, and a likely 4-6 week absence, Cano was suspended for 80 games on Tuesday after violating MLB’s joint drug agreement. The start of his suspension will be served on the disabled list, but Cano will be unavailable to the Seattle Mariners and fantasy owners until mid-August.

Cano can be stashed in a DL spot on a fantasy roster, since he was put on the disabled list before his suspension was announced. That gives his fantasy owners some nice flexibility, but a lineup spot still has to be filled for three months.

With that in mind, here are five replacements for Cano to seek on the waiver wire in your fantasy baseball league.

5. Dustin Pedroia, Boston Red Sox

Pedroia has yet to play this season after knee surgery last October, but he has started a rehab assignment and is on track to return to the Red Sox lineup before the end of the month.

Pedroia has played 105 games or less in two of the last three full seasons, and his days of threatening a 20-20 season are gone. But coming back to a regular spot in a potent Boston lineup gives him automatic fantasy value, and he can be stashed on the bench right now.
