The NFL has elected not to pursue any action against Giants quarterback Eli Manning under the league’s “Personal Conduct Policy.”

New York Giants fans can breathe a sigh of relief today. The NFL will not be bringing the hammer down on quarterback Eli Manning. He will not face any NFL sanctions based on allegations of “memorabilia fraud” against the Giants signal caller.

Things might have been different if Manning had faced criminal charges. Instead, his representatives and the allegedly offended parties elected to handle things in civil court. That may have cost Manning some cash, but it won’t cost him any games this season.

NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy told Profootballtalk that the circumstances surrounding Manning’s civil case are “not a (Personal Conduct Policy) issue.” That effectively ends any speculation that Manning might suffer any sort of league sanctions over the entire affair.

Many pundits were critical of the Giants decision not to draft an heir apparent to Manning in the 2018 NFL Draft. It’s safe to say that being forced to play without him would have been a really tough blow for the New York offense.

Davis Webb has some supporters in the front office, but last year’s third round pick hasn’t seen meaningful NFL action yet in his career. Counting on him to start in Manning’s absence, even for a short period of time, would have been a big issue for Pat Shurmur’s offense.

Now the Giants can go into the season with a little more certainty at the quarterback position. Eli Manning may not be everyone’s idea of an ideal starter at this stage of his career, but he’s the best option the team has. The news that he won’t be forced to miss any games due to suspension will be welcome news for everyone associated with the team.
