As poorly as the Dodgers have played there’s only six games out in the division. Moving for one of these five stars could save the team’s season.

The Dodgers entered the season with massive expectations. It’s safe to say they didn’t expect to be sitting in fourth place in the NL West come late Many. Unfortunately for fans of the West Coast club, injuries and poor play from a few stars has the Dodgers mired in mediocrity.

The good news is that there’s still time to save this season. Ownership doesn’t want to add a ton of payroll this season, but the team’s problems aren’t that deep. A few shrewd acquisitions could get the Dodgers right back into the playoff mix.

The challenging aspect of predicting who the Dodgers might target before the trade deadline is that you have to project which of their stars will return from injury. Corey Seager is the only really meaningful player who is out for the season. He underwent Tommy John surgery and will be out until 2019.

The pitching staff, in particular, has been beset by injury. That doesn’t mean the Dodgers front office needs to revamp the rotation though. Clayton Kershaw, Rich Hill and Hyun-Jin Ryu are all on the disabled list currently. Each of the trio should be back in a matter of weeks. Expect Los Angeles to focus most of their trade resources on fixing Dave Roberts’ everyday lineup.

Third base is a spot the team should definitely look to upgrade. Kyle Farmer isn’t giving them anywhere near league average production at the hot corner. That, combined with the ample supply of third basemen available this season should make it an easy spot to fix.

Elsewhere, the Dodgers really don’t have many places in the lineup where they couldn’t at least entertain a move.  That gives the Dodgers front office a lot of choices to make, but also a lot of opportunities.

Keep an eye on these five players as stars who could really help the Dodgers get back in the playoff race.
