Updated U.S. Open odds after Byron Nelson Classic
Shinnecock Hills will host the 118th U.S. Open June 14-17. With some of the biggest names in golf playing well, the leaderboard should be loaded with stars. Who is the favorite to win it and who are some of the dark horses?
Last year at Erin Hills, the top three players in the world all missed the cut in the U.S. Open, the only time that’s happened at a major since the World Golf Rankings began in 1986.
Las Vegas doesn’t seem concerned about a repeat performance this year with Justin Thomas, Dustin Johnson and Jordan Spieth all among the favorites at Shinnecock Hills after Spieth posted a T21 finish at the AT&T Byron Nelson over the weekend.
Spieth, the third-ranked player in the world, leads the field at +900 according to Bovada’s odds. Dustin Johnson (2nd) and Rory McIlroy (8th) are each +1000 while the No. 1 player in the world Justin Thomas checks in at +1600. Despite multiple wins on tour this season, Thomas remains behind that trio at the top, as well as Rickie Fowler and Tiger Woods, each at +1400.
Jason Day has been the best U.S. Open player in the game going back to 2012 with four top-10 finishes, but the 30-year-old Aussie was among that group at the top to miss the cut at Erin Hills along with Johnson and McIlroy. He checks in at a rather tasty +1800.
