The best 30 players at the World Cup
By James Dudko
22. Harry Kane, striker, England
Kane may have tailed off toward the end of the season, but the Spurs frontman is still one of the deadliest strikers at this World Cup. Not many can match the England talisman’s blend of strength, subtle movement and shooting power.
It’s not all about force for Kane, though. There is an equal amount of silk to a finisher who is unerringly cool in front of goal.
Kane can strike from a variety of positions, but loves to peel off into the inside left channel. Whenever he shifts the ball onto his right foot in these areas, any goalkeeper is in trouble.
An ability to flourish in the air is also a key facet of Kane’s game. His timing and leaping ability have caught more than a few defenders cold.
If there is a concern for Kane, it involves his fitness. The 24-year-old has rarely looked at full strength since returning from an ankle injury ahead of schedule in late-April.
England’s ability to regularly supply Kane with chances is also a worry. The midfield is short on creativity, a problem compounded by coach Gareth Southgate’s decision to leave Arsenal schemer Jack Wilshere out.
