FanDuel Lineup and Picks for Wednesday, May 23
Orioles at White Sox
Orioles Probable Starter – Alex Cobb, RHP
6.56 ERA, 1.85 WHIP and 11.3 strikeout rate
Vs LHH – .455 average, .514 wOBA, 26.3 fly ball rate and 37.9 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .308 average, .382 wOBA, 27.7 fly ball rate and 34.9 hard contact rate
Cobb has actually started to show signs of life lately, posting a quality start in three of his last four starts. They came at Oakland, at the Angels and at Boston. That’s not something that many pitchers have been able to say this year. I don’t think I’ll be playing Cobb because there doesn’t appear to be a ton of upside but I’m not going to be too heavy on the White Sox.
Cobb hasn’t been a total gas can lately and the only two plays that really scream out are Yoan Moncada and Daniel Palka. You can always throw in Jose Abreu as well.
White Sox Hitters to Target
Elite Options – Yoan Moncada, Daniel Palka
Secondary Options – Jose Abreu
White Sox Probable Starter – Dylan Covey, RHP
Covey is another pitcher that I’m not really going to list the stats because he’s only pitched six innings this season. What we need to know is he’s a very poor pitcher by all metrics and he was a reverse splits pitcher in his 70 innings last season. Manny Machado is one of the top hitters on the entire slate, even at the steep price of $5,000.
If he’s too rich for your blood, Mark Trumbo is still under $3,000 and he’s been swinging a hot bat lately. I’m not here to talk you out of any Baltimore hitter and they could be the highest scoring team of the evening. If Covey continues to be reverse splits, this is a frighteningly bad spot for him.
Orioles Hitters to Target
Elite Options – Manny Machado, Mark Trumbo, Adam Jones
Secondary Options – Jonathan Schoop, Danny Valencia, Pedro Alvarez
Home Run Pick – Mark Trumbo
Mariners at A’s
Mariners Probable Pitcher – Marco Gonzales, LHP
4.66 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 21.4 strikeout rate
Vs LHH – .238 average, .303 wOBA, 30.0 fly ball rate and 38.1 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .320 average, .359 wOBA, 24.6 fly ball rate and 35.7 hard contact rate
We’ll have to wait for the official lineup, but Chad Pinder and/or Mark Canha are both some of the best salary savers across the board tonight. They’re within two points about who’s better in wOBA against lefties and I’ might just play both of them if they’re in the lineup.
They’re just too cheap for this spot. Marcus Semien should lead off against a lefty and he’s in a really good spot as well. $3,300 for a shortstop is very attractive. even though Khris Davis will likely not play, there is plenty of value to be had in this Oakland lineup tonight.
A’s Hitters to Target
Elite Options – Chad Pinder, Mark Chana, Marcus Semien, Jed Lowire
Secondary Options – Matt Davidson, Matt Olson
A’s Probable Starter – Daniel Gossett, RHP
I think this should be the last time I don’t list the splits for a pitcher. I know that’s little out of character but Gossett only has two starts for 7.1 innings so far. They both came against the Angels and he got beat up in both. There’s no evidence that Gossett is a good pitcher and the Mariners would be in a good spot to tee off….if they had any healthy bodies.
Dee Gordon and Robinson Cano will definitely miss the game and Nelson Cruz and Mitch Haniger might miss as well. If all four are out of the lineup, you could play Jean Segura or Kyle Seager but I wouldn’t go overboard with them. I wish Oakland had a decent pitcher to throw out there because there’s potential for fantasy goodness here. We definitely need to see a lineup card for this game.
Mariners Hitters to Target
Elite Options – Jean Segura
Secondary Options – Kyle Seager
Home Run Pick – Chad Pinder
