Former Buffalo Bills lineman Richie Incognito was arrested in Florida while rambling about the government spying on him.

Richie Incognito, who recently retired and the unretired (maybe) from football, was taken away by police and placed in involuntary psychiatric hold this week in Miami following an altercation at a gym. TMZ apparently asked those who involved with the incident what the deal was, and it’s pretty strange.

According to witnesses, Incognito threw tennis balls at a man for no reason and then proceeded to lob dumbells his way as well. This culminated with the cops showing up and taking the 4-time Pro Bowler away as he reportedly rambled about how the government was spying on him.

While this is alarming behavior on paper, it’s terrifyingly in line with other stories about football players who are struggling with CTE. To everyone’s knowledge, Incognito hasn’t been diagnosed with the brain disease, He’s an easy target, ironically, because of his past with bullying teammates. But this is serious and scary behavior that needs to be divorced from any ill-will someone might feel towards him. No one should be rooting for the mental deterioration of anyone.

For now, his playing days are both unknown and unimportant. Incognito retired from football back in April at the age of 34, only to unretire soon after. The Bills granted his release to find work elsewhere in the league but so far it doesn’t seem like there’s been much interest.

Incognito is probably most well-known for his involvement in the Miami Dolphins bullying scandal back in 2014. It was determined that he and other members of the team bullied Jonathan Martin, who filed a complaint with the league over his treatment in the workplace.
