. G. Pau-Orthez. Elie Okobo. 39. player. 93

Okobo can’t stay out of the spotlight much longer — not after a filthy 44-point performance against AS Monaco that featured every trick in his book.

It would be easy to watch the highlights from the game (which you can do above) and wonder what Okobo can’t do on offense. He established a sick hesitation dribble early in the game that allowed him to unleash a few counter moves later on, rocking a pull-up 3 at will with a quick-flick release or driving to the basket after that split-second pause sent his defender falling to the floor.

He looked absolutely devastating in the open floor, with an electric first step and strong finishes in traffic in which he simply knocked big men backward going to the basket. It’s not often you find someone this athletic with ball skills like Okobo has, plus physical advantages at 6-2 with a 6-8 wingspan. He could be physically dominant even against NBA competition.

Okobo shot 39 percent from 3 in what is basically his rookie season in France’s top basketball league. The level of competition makes you wonder when so much of his game is predicated upon exploiting mismatches, but hopefully another year or two of international competition can give us a better idea of how Okobo will develop.

I’ll reiterate that the Sixers cannot possibly keep all six of their draft selections this year, so I expect them to be aggressive taking draft-and-stash options.
