The eyes of the world are on Liverpool star Mohamed Salah as Liverpool takes on Real Madrid Saturday in the Champions League final — and now Liverpool fans are holding their collective breath as Salah leaves with a shoulder injury.

Even across the pond, we could swear we heard the collective gasp in Kiev, Ukraine, as Liverpool star Mohamed Salah left the pitch with a shoulder injury on Saturday.

Regining champions Real Madrid’s path to a win in the Champions League final got a lot clearer as a result of the controversial injury, in which Salah got tangled up with Sergio Ramos, with the latter falling on top of him and pinning him down.

Twitter lit up with accusations that Ramos wrenched Salah’s arm on purpose on the way down, causing the injury:

In a heartbreaking scene even for non-Liverpool fans, tears ran down Salah’s face as he left the match.

NBC Soccer’s Roger Bennett opined that the Liverpool locker room would “feel like a morgue” at halftime as Jurgen Klopp attempts to keep this team motivated heading into the second half without Salah.

Needless to say, if Liverpool can pull this off, it would be nothing short of incredible. Klopp is still looking for his first Champions League title.

And the heartbreak wasn’t limited only to Liverpool’s side. Real Madrid’s Dani Carvajal also left the match in tears after an apparent hamstring injury, leaving Spain losing its collective mind just ahead of the World Cup.
