The Simpsons (kind of) predicted Vegas contending for Stanley Cup

The Simpsons have (sort of, maybe, a little bit) done it again in adding to their lengthy list of predictions that came true. This time, they have the Stanley Cup in Vegas.

Anyone who’s a major fan of The Simpsons, the animated show that’s been a cultural stalwart the past 30 years, knows its writers have made some fairly coincidental “predictions” during that time.

Like, a ton of them.

For instance, an episode from 2000 has Donald Trump becoming president. They predicted in 1995 that we’d all be talking into our watch for some reason and that faulty voting machines would a thing in 2008. The 9/11 theory is fairly odd and creepy. The list is endless.

But have they done it again? Is it time once more to utter the phrase “Simpsons did it” in regard to the Vegas Golden Knights contending for a Stanley Cup?

If it were up to us, yes. And it is. Simpsons did it!

The picture above is from the 1999 episode entitled “Viva Ned Flanders,” in which Homer and Ned travel to Las Vegas. The two end up hammered and wake to find themselves married to strangers with their room completely trashed. Wait, but what’s that by the window. Is that…is that the Stanley Cup?

Yep. Okay, we’re not going to go full conspiracy theory here, as Vegas hasn’t actually won the Cup yet. But in the very least we’re still docking this in the bay of “Simpsons predicted Vegas would contend for a championship.” Almost a full 20 years before anyone even suggested Las Vegas house a hockey club.

During this scene, Flanders says, “I have a pounding headache, my mouth tastes like vomit, and I don’t remember a thing!” Wow, that’s exactly what every Golden Knights fan will be professing if they do indeed win it all. The predictions keep on coming!

Or maybe that’s simply what every Vegas resident says on a Monday morning.
