Angels at Yankees

Angels Probable Starter – Garrett Richards, RHP

3.31 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 26.0 strikeout rate

Vs LHH – .186 average, .282 wOBA, 31.3 fly ball rate and 31.3 hard contact rate

Vs RHH – .245 average, .313 wOBA, 29.7 fly ball rate and 41.9 hard contact rate

There’s no way I’d use Richards in Yankee Stadium, especially when his strikeouts haven’t been there his last three starts. Something that is interesting is Richards throws his fastball or slider right about 90 percent of the time. When a two pitch mix is that high, I want to see how the batters rate against those two pitches. The best hitter against both is Aaron Judge but Gleyber Torres isn’t far behind in a more limited sample size. Really, the Yankees can put it on any pitcher at home. New York carries an .812 OPS at home as a team so far this year.

Yankees Hitters to Target

Elite Options – Aaron Judge, Gelyber Torres, Miguel Andujar

Secondary Options – Gary Sanchez, Didi Gregorius, Giancarlo Stanton

Yankees Probable Starter – Masahiro Tanaka, RHP

4.95 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 21.7 strikeout rate

Vs LHH – .241 average, .322 wOBA, 32.9 fly ball rate and 27.8 hard contact rate

Vs RHH – .214 average, .303 wOBA, 36.0 fly ball rate and 36.0 hard contact rate

If you haven’t noticed that past couple of nights, Mike Trout is really enjoying playing in New York. He’s 6 for 7 with 2 walks, 2 home runs, 3 doubles, 5 RBI and four runs scored. He’s right up there as the best play on the slate, albeit expensive. I don’t trust Tanaka to keep him contained today. Shohei Ohtani isn’t pitching today so he should be in the lineup and would be an ideal play against Tanaka. The Angels have the seventh highest ISO in baseball against righties and this is not a good matchup for Tanaka.

Secondary Options -Andrelton Simmons

Home Run Pick – Mike Trout and Aaron Judge
