Blue Jays at Phillies

Blue Jays Probable Starter – J.A. Happ, LHP

3.98 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 29.6 strikeout rate

Vs LHH – .148 average, .185 wOBA, 28.6 fly ball rate and 20.0 hard contact rate

vs RHH – .245 average, .322 wOBA, 38.6 fly ball rate and 34.2 hard contact rate

I actually like Happ a little bit today. He’s bounced back after a couple very poor starts in a row and I think he could have a big game today. He’s owned lefty hitters so Odubel Herrera is off the table in my view. Some of the bigger bats aren’t that scary right now. Cesar Hernandez doesn’t have huge power potential. Rhys Hoskins is ice cold. Past that, the next best righty is likely Carlos Santana. I’d take my chances with this lineup as an against the grain play. Aaron Altherr is still very cheap as a one-off but feels a little bit unnecessary.

Phillies Hitters to Target

Elite Options – None

Secondary Options – Cesar Hernandez, Carlos Santana, Aaron Altherr

Phillies Probable Starter – Nick Pivetta, RHP

3.23 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 28.0 strikeout rate

Vs LHH – .260 average, .317 wOBA, 41.1 fly ball rate and 30.1 hard contact rate

Vs RHH – .192 average, .233 wOBA, 38.1 fly ball rate and 23.9 hard contact rate

I’m not sure why Pivetta is so cheap but I’m going to take the savings and run. He got blasted but the Braves and Nationals in back-to-back starts but has been basically lights out since then. He’s struck out 25 hitters and given up one earned run in those three starts and I won’t be chasing Blue Jays today. Not only do I think Pivetta can be played today, he’s a cash game option if you feel more comfortable spending on hitters.

If you disagree and think Pivetta could get whacked around a little bit, you want to chase lefty hitters. Curtis Granderson is super cheap for his upside and Yangervis Solarte and Justin Smoak are also in play if you stack Blue Jays.
