The 2018 IndyCar season has another new championship leader. Here are the updated Verizon IndyCar Series standings after the 2018 Indianapolis 500.

The 2018 Indianapolis 500 has given the Verizon IndyCar Series a new championship leader, but the bigger surprise might be how relatively little movement there is in the rest of the 2018 IndyCar standings.

Will Power won the 2018 Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, and the double points for the Greatest Spectacle in Racing moved the Team Penske driver from seventh in championship points to the title lead.

Yet even with twice the amount of points on offer, the performances from some familiar faces ensured that there wasn’t as much upheaval in the 2018 IndyCar standings as there could have been.

Both runner-up Alexander Rossi and fourth-place Scott Dixon held their positions by finishing fourth and third in the Indy 500 respectively. Former championship leader Josef Newgarden only dropped from first to third place overall.

And even though James Hinchcliffe didn’t participate at all, he only slipped from fifth place down to tenth. Though his Indy 500 absence definitely hurt him, it didn’t do as much damage as it could have. Hinchcliffe suffered the same drop as Sebastien Bourdais, who fell from third to eighth when he crashed out of Sunday’s race.

Below are the updated Verizon IndyCar Series standings after the Indianapolis 500:

1 – Will Power – 243 pts
