17. North Texas (Green)

Isn’t it weird how the world works? In the last slide, the Rainbow Warriors were featured with a fierce green. In this slide, the North Texas Mean Green find their uniforms on the list with a not-so-mean green. One team has a borderline embarrassing nickname; the jersey hue is fierce. The other? A cool nickname with a pretty shade of green on its uniform.

For this reason, the North Texas mascot’s name sums up the appearance of the green on the jersey perfectly; Scrappy. That’s not to take a shot at the jersey, which looks fantastic. The intimidation factor just isn’t there. Which is a shame considering the team’s nickname is the Mean Green. Anyways, we’ve once again run into a scenario where the font is the coolest part of the uniform. A lot of traditional thinkers will hate the idea of a team sporting this style of writing, but I’m all here for it. Writing each and every letter in caps, but making the first letter of each word bigger just looks better. Especially in North Texas’ case when they also have tails extending out or connecting the next letter in the word.

Other than the insane font, the jersey is pretty standard. Although it isn’t that intimidating, the light — but not neon — green is a pleasure to look at, especially when mixed in with neutral colors such as black and white. The wing-like pattern on the shoulders is also visually appealing and new to the North Texas jersey. After years of colored shoulders, North Texas and Nike decided to move in a more creative direction. Overall, a solid uniform from a lesser-known school down South.
