30 best jerseys in college football
13. Houston (Black)
One doesn’t have to look terribly far back to see the days in which Houston football was still a mediocre program with mediocre uniforms. Even in the days of Kevin Sumlin and Case Keenum, the Cougars had uniforms which looked like junior varsity tops. But, things now look to be headed the Cougars’ way in recent years. A number of incredible wins over Oklahoma and Florida State, a few highly-rated recruits and some sick uniforms later, the Cougars are a few years away from likely joining a power-five conference. Despite the loss of Tom Herman — a real player’s coach — to Texas, heads have remained held high in Houston.
Houston’s uniform level has skyrocketed throughout the last few seasons. Nike gave the Cougars what they believe is a modern take on their traditional uniforms with a few alternate options in between for the powerhouse hopefuls. Although the new, modern uniforms are astonishingly sharp, one of the alternates takes the cake in H-Town.
The black alternate uniforms are some of the best uniforms in the country, no doubt about it. When worn with the black pants, these Houston uniforms blow the previous blackout uniforms out of the water. Further, who isn’t terrified by the sight of black and red together from head to toe? That color combination screams strength and ruthlessness, especially when it’s being worn by one of the top NFL prospects for the 2019 class. The uniform features a black base with everything else on the jersey painted in blood red. Mix in the alternate helmets and it’s a shame fans aren’t treated to this Houston jersey more often.
