11. West Virginia (Gold)

Navy and gold, one of the most brilliant color combos in all of sports. While it belongs to multiple other colleges — such as the Toledo Rockets and California Golden Bears — nobody wears it better than the Mountaineers of West Virginia. West Virginia finds itself in a similar spot with many other teams on this list as the current uniforms are similar to days of old with an up-to-date twist. Furthermore, the “Flying WV” logo is one of the things that has remained a constant staple at West Virginia throughout the years.

The Mountaineers have seen a lot of success under current head coach Dana Holgorsen, which is why it’s appropriate the team adopted a gold jersey under his reign. The Mountaineers have found massive success multiple times since Holgorsen took over and constantly find themselves in or near the top 25. So let’s dive into the golden Mountaineers uniforms and why they deserve a spot just outside the top 10.

Although there are features present in the golden West Virginia jersey that are common in other Nike threads, the WVU jersey is a kind of its own. Despite the jersey being gold, there is a darker golden spot present around the stomach area. Not sure why it’s there — maybe to let the stomach breathe — but hey, it looks cool. The lettering and numbering is all navy, along with the shoulder. However, there is a golden strip beneath the shoulder before the navy patch continues under the arms, along the side. In addition, there is an intertwining-line pattern along the collar and at the center, a gold “Flying WV”. This jersey goes above and beyond the basic Nike uniform and with a color scheme as cool as the Mountaineers’, it had to rank amongst the best of them.
