25. UCLA (Blue)

Whereas some teams like to boast gold as a primary color, the Bruins use the spectacular color in secondary fashion. There’s no doubt UCLA is one of college football’s most storied programs for many reasons. In spite of that, their unique — and historic — uniforms have become one of the most recognizable in the game due to their longevity. Given that the UCLA uniforms have withstood the test of time, the colors have gotten tweaked over the last few decades.

Originally, UCLA had the same colors as the Cal Golden Bears; navy and gold. In the eyes of UCLA, these colors represented the ocean and the Golden State of California — both of which are important to the university. However, the Bruins did away with those colors in 1949. Head football coach Red Sanders adopted the lighter shade of blue we see today. He thought it’d be easier to see on the field and on film. Ever since the only modifications made to the uniforms have been slight color tweaks. But, the colors largely remain the same.

The UCLA “True Blue” uniform makes this list because of the recognizability and simple beauty. The true blue color in which UCLA adopted in the early 2000’s isn’t quite a powder blue, but it isn’t too harsh either. With the lighter — and frankly less obnoxious — tone of gold, the colors combine to make one of the prettiest uniforms in college football while still sticking true to the principles in which they were created.
