Kentucky Wildcats fan, 2014

The Kentucky Wildcats had 40:1 odds to start the 2013-14 NCAA men’s basketball season. There was a very good chance they weren’t going to be close to a championship, let alone a few points away.

In case you’ve forgotten, this was the season of the extremely annoying Harrison twins, Andrew and Aaron. There was serious buzz around the team in the pre-season, with Calipari gathering a top class of recruits including the twins, Julius Randle and James Young.

When coach Calipari took his eighth-seeded team to the NCAA Final, this fan must have been thinking fate was on his side for getting the tattoo. Unfortunately for him, fate doesn’t reward stupidity.

The Wildcats ended up losing to the 7-seeded University of Connecticut in the final. Our tattooed fan was one game away from being a hero, but ended up on this list with the rest of the goats (the bad version of “goat,” not the LeBron kind).

Shabazz Napier was dubbed the most outstanding player of the NCAA tournament that year. Imagine having to tell people that your tattoo was ruined by the play of Shabazz Napier. Anyone who knows anything about basketball will laugh at you and chances are anyone outside of basketball will reply with “Uhh, who?”

The Wildcats were obviously better than their record stated, but they wouldn’t be as good (on paper) as they were the following year after adding the likes of Karl-Anthony Towns, Devin Booker and Tyler Ulis. The team in the 2014-15 season went 18-0 in regular season play, which must have excited our tattooed friend here, as he could just add a “-15” to his ink.

Alas, the Wildcats were upset in their Final Four game against the No. 3 seeded Wisconsin Badgers, who went on to lose to Duke in a heartbreaking NCAA championship game and the Wildcats broke the heart of our fan here, who won’t be able to show his tattoo in public until the 2024 season.
