Mets at Braves

Mets Probable Starter – Jacob deGrom, RHP

1.54 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 33.3 strikeout rate

Vs LHH – .198 average, .254 wOBA, 35.0 fly ball rate and 21.9 hard contact rate

Vs RHH – .198 average, .217 wOBA, 26.8 fly ball rate and 28.2 hard contact rate

If I had to pay up for a pitcher today, it would be deGrom but I would do it grudgingly. I’m not going to normally target pitchers against the braves but it is tough to ignore what deGrom has done against them so far this season. He’s made two starts against them and gone 11 innings, struck out 16 and given up zero earned runs. The only reason the inning total is relatively low is he had to leave a start early with an injury. The other factor here is harder to measure. Ronald Acuna could have potentially suffered a serious injury yesterday. If he did, it could be difficult for the Braves to bring their A game today. This side of the game is deGrom or nothing in my  eyes.

Braves Hitters to Target

Elite Options – None

Secondary Options – Freddy Freeman, Ozzie Albies

Braves Probable Starter – Max Fried, LHP

*All stats from four relief appearances* 6.00 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 26.9 strikeout rate

Vs LHH – .286 average, .609 wOBA, 66.7 fly ball rate and 66.7 hard contact rate (9 batters faced)

Vs RHH – .188 average, .281 wOBA, 41.7 fly ball rate and 46.2 hard contact rate(17 batters faced)

This side of the game is a lot more fun to talk about for offensive baseball. We’re not going to put a ton of stock into these splits because we’re talking about 26 batters total. It appears there’s upside to chase since Fried is not a good pitcher. The downside is the Mets are the worst offense in baseball against lefty pitching. If you wanted to get nuts, you could actually play Fried since he’s minimum price and fit basically any hitter you want. As bad as he looks, I’ll limit my exposure to the Mets to just three hitters – Asdrubal Cabrera, Devin Mesoraco and Amed Rosario. There’s virtually no reason for any other target and a duo of Gattis and Rosario frees up a ton of scary for the rest of your squad.
