Angels at Tigers

Angels Probable Starter – Tyler Skaggs, LHP

3.11 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 25.4 strikeout rate

Vs LHH – .164 average, .211 wOBA, 36.4 fly ball rate and 38.6 hard contact rate

Vs RHH – .276 average, .337 wOBA, 33.0 fly ball rate and 39.1 hard contact rate

I like Skaggs a lot usually but today might not be one of those days. The Tigers have a top 10 offense against lefties in a lot of categories and there’s plenty of individual hitters that rate well against lefty pitching as well. I wouldn’t trust lefty hitters against Skaggs in the least as he’s done a great job limiting the damage there. Detroit is another team that could field a lineup of all righties and switch hitters.

The Tigers are a quietly good offense to stack today. JaCoby Jones should lead off at $2,200 and that’s somewhat appealing. The big bats come next in Nicholas Castellanos and Jeimer Candelario. Castellanos is actually just a hair cheaper and you have some cheap options after that. James McCann and Niko Goodrum are all appealing today, as is John Hicks.

Tigers Hitters to Target

Elite Options – Jeimer Candelario, Nicholas Castellanos

Secondary Options – John Hicks, Niko Goodrum, James McCann, John Hicks

Tigers Probable Starter – Matthew Boyd, LHP

3.29 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 19.6 strikeout rate

Vs LHH – .152 average, .202 wOBA, 50.0 fly ball rate and 41.7 hard contact rate

Vs RHH – .224 average, .284 wOBA, 46.4 fly ball rate and 28.6 hard contact rate

We’ll need to keep an eye out to make sure Boyd is actually starting today. He had trouble with his oblique in his last start and left early. Even if he does, I don’t think I’d have the guts to start him in my lineup. The Angels rate surprisingly poor against lefties so far this year. You would think a righty heavy lineup would be able to handle lefty pitching but they’re league average or worse in most offensive categories. Given Boyd’s fly ball rate and the hard contact rate he gives up does make a couple Angels hitters interesting. They have this player named Mike Trout who’s pretty solid at baseball. Andrelton Simmons is another solid play, regardless of who pitches today for the Tigers.

Elite Options – Mike Trout, Andrelton Simmons

Secondary Options – Jefry Marte, Ian Kinsler, Justin Upton

Home Run Pick – John Hicks
