Browns’ Damarious Randall makes a promise he might regret

New Browns defensive back Damarious Randall is trying his best to win over his new Cleveland fan base. He might just have spread himself too thin, however.
During Monday night’s Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals, Cleveland Browns’ defensive back Damarious Randall tweeted a promise to buy a jersey for everyone who retweets him if they go on to win the 2018 NBA Finals.
Needless to say, the tweet blew up.
As of Tuesday afternoon, Randall had earned nearly 350,000 retweets. That’s a lot of jerseys.

The promise raised eyebrows around the sports world, particularly from a financial point of view. According to Spotrac, Randall will earn a base salary of $1.09 million in 2018.
ESPN Sports Business Reporter Darren Rovell spent his Tuesday afternoon tracking the number of retweets Randall had gotten. He also looked at the potential damage it might do to his wallet. His latest reminder to his followers may have Randall regretting some decisions he made.
As of 4:30pm ET, Damarious Randall is on the hook for $25 million in jerseys, if the Cavs win.

Well, then. If LeBron James rallies the troops and is able to lead the Cavaliers to an upset over the Warriors, Randall may have some explaining to do.
Even the Spotrac offical Twitter account showed some concern for Randall’s ability to fund his promise.

Randall irked Cleveland fans earlier in the Rockets-Warriors series with a few other NBA-related tweets he sent out. He professed his fandom for the Warriors and took some heat for it from Clevelanders, who claimed he needed to be either all-in or all-out on the city.
Randall brushed off the complaints, citing James himself as another Cleveland athlete who is a fan of teams from other cities.

The Browns acquired Randall from the Green Bay Packers in March in a deal that involved former Cleveland first-rounder DeShone Kizer. He’s expected to switch back to his natural position at safety in 2018. He played cornerback for Green Bay his first three seasons.
