FanDuel Lineup and Picks for Tuesday, May 29
Reds at Diamondbacks
Reds Probable Starter – Luis Castillo, RHP
5.34 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 22.1 strikeout rate
Vs LHH – .271 average, .375 wOBA, 41.5 fly ball rate and 41.5 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .267 average, .320 wOBA, 25.6 fly ball rate and 30.0 hard contact rate
There’s not a lot to like from the stats portion of Castillo but it’s important to realize that his season should basically be split into two parts. Towards the end of last month, the Reds noticed his arm slot was really off kilter. After they tweaked the mechanics, Castillo has been pretty solid all the way around. He’s a great tournament play tonight because he has some downside but this Diamondback offense isn’t all that good. They are the third worst team in strikeout rate and ranks dead last in average, OPS and wOBA against righty pitching. I have a ton of interest in Castillo and the only hitters for Arizona I might use is Nick Ahmed as a salary saver. He rates very well against the changeup which could be a secret weapon for Ahmed tonight.
Diamondbacks Hitters to Target
Elite Options – None
Secondary Options – Nick Ahmed, David Peralta, Jake Lamb, Daniel Descalso
Diamondbacks Probable Starter – Zack Godley, RHP
4.53 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 20.8 strikeout rate
Vs LHH – .243 average, .324 wOBA, 22.5 fly ball rate and 26.2 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .282 average, .342 wOBA, 31.8 fly ball rate and 41.2 hard contact rate
Godley has been much more hittable than most people thought coming into the season. Since he’s been struggling, some of the Reds hitters could be in play. The humidor has had an effect on the offense in Arizona and I don’t think I’ll have a ton of exposure on this side of the game. There is one thing that really caught my eye however. Godley throws his curveball just about 40 percent of the time. The second highest rated curveball hitter in baseball is Eugenio Suarez. He’s $4,000 and will definitely be in a GPP lineup for me tonight. It doesn’t hurt that Suarez is a righty either.
Reds Hitters to Target
Elite Options – Eugenio Suarez
Secondary Options – Joey Votto, Scooter Gennett
Home Run Pick – Eugenio Suarez
Rays at A’s
Rays Probable Starter – Blake Snell, LHP
2.78 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 27.1 strikeout rate
Vs LHH – .117 average, .172 wOBA, 33.3 fly ball rate and 35.0 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .218 average, .304 wOBA, 41.9 fly ball rate and 33.6 hard contact rate
Snell is going to be one of my favorite pitchers of the night and possibly my cash game guy. Snell has recovered from his hiccup in Baltimore to post 48 and 52 points in his past two starts and Oakland isn’t above average in any major offensive category against lefties. They’ll also still be without Khris Davis, which is a huge blow to the offense. The two best wOBA hitter against lefties are Mark Chana and Chad Pinder, neither who should be able to get to Snell that much. I can safely say I will have no A’s hitters tonight.
A’s Hitters to Target
Elite Options – None
Secondary Options – Chad Pinder, Mark Chana, Jed Lowrie
A’s Probable Starter – Daniel Gossett, RHP
6.23 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 12.3 strikeout rate
Vs LHH – .333 average, .415 wOBA, 53.8 fly ball rate and 53.8 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .238 average, .285 wOBA, 30.6 fly ball rate and 36.1 hard contact rate
Gossett has only had three starts in the majors this season and I really wish the Rays had more lefties I felt good about using. Mallex Smith is super cheap at $2,500 and has the stolen base upside that everyone loves. Brad Miller might lead off if his face is healed up from taking a ball near his eye on Monday. Joey Wendle is the only other lefty of not in the Tampa lineup. There’s not a ton of home run upside and if you roster any of these players, you almost have to hope they put together a rally or two. If Smith leads off, he’d be an exceptional play.
Rays Hitters to Target
Elite Options – Mallex Smith
Secondary Options – Brad Miller, Joey Wendle, Wilson Ramos
Home Run Pick – Brad Miller
