Rangers at Mariners

Rangers Probable Starter – Austin Bibens-Dirkx

*Stats from one start* 5.68 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 20.7 strikeout rate

We’re gonna skip the splits because it’s only been one start and Bibens-Dirkx is not a good pitcher. There’s no real reason to be scared of this matchup for the Mariners hitters. All of the normal suspects for the Mariners with one batter that might go fairly overlooked in Guillermo Heredia. He has a wOBA over .400 against righties so far this year and nobody is going to play him. Mike Zunino is nice and cheap as well and could very easily put one into the seats this evening. Mitch Haniger’s price is coming back down and he could be in play tonight at $3,500. I’m passing on Nelson Cruz until he wakes up a little bit.

Mariners Hitters to Target

Elite Options – Mike Zunino, Guillermo Heredia, Mitch Haniger

Secondary Options – Jean Segura, Ryon Healy, Denard Span

Mariners Probable Starter – Felix Hernandez, RHP

5.58 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 19.0 strikeout rate

Vs LHH – .222 average, .328 wOBA, 44.6 fly ball rate and 38.6 hard contact rate

Vs RHH – .269 average, .350 wOBA, 30.7 fly ball rate and 41.8 hard contact rate

I’m bummed having to write up hitters against Felix Hernandez because I always loved watching King Felix pitch. He’s a ghost of what he used to be and some of the Rangers are in a really good spot tonight. The righties hit for a higher average but the lefties hit a lot more fly balls. That’s going to make me want to chase the upside of the lefty bats so that means hitters like Nomar Mazara and Joey Gallo. Past those two big power bats, I’m looking towards Delino DeShields and Isiah Kiner – Falefa. I probably won’t go full Rangers stack tonight but I wouldn’t talk you out of it either.

Home Run Pick – Mike Zunino

Phillies at Dodgers

Phillies Probable Starter – Jake Arrieta, RHP

2.45 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 17.0 strikeout rate

Vs LHH – .256 average, .289 wOBA, 28.8 fly ball rate and 26.9 hard contact rate

Vs RHH – .194 average, .255 wOBA, 25.9 fly ball rate and 20.9 hard contact rate

I will likely continue to avoid Arrieta since the strikeout rate is so low. He was fantastic in his last start and it came against the Braves, which is impressive. A seven strikeout performance is the outlier for Arrieta, not the normal. $8,100 is not a terrible price point but there’s a pitcher that’s only $300 more that I like much better and Snell is only $600 more. Given the fly ball rate and hard contact to both types of batters, I will have zero Dodgers hitters this evening. Cody Bellinger would be about the only one on my radar as a power lefty.

Dodgers Hitters to Target

Elite Options – None

Secondary Options – Cody Bellinger

Dodgers Probable Starter – Kenta Meada, RHP

3.38 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 30.8 strikeout rate

Vs LHH – .276 average, .340 wOBA, 32.3 fly ball rate and 37.9 hard contact rate

Vs RHH – .194 average, .254 wOBA, 34.9 fly ball rate and 31.3 hard contact rate

I think a lot of people are going to gravitate towards Maeda tonight since Charlie Morton is in a tough matchup. Meada is coming off two consecutive great starts of over 50 points but my issue with Meada is the same as it always is – his chance at a quality start is low and that means a smaller margin of error. He’s only hit the quality start mark three times the whole season so far. He’s still got a great chance to record enough strikeouts that it might not matter, but you have to have it in your mind potential outcomes. One issue for Meada could be the three best hitters against right handed pitching are all lefties, which is the worse side of the splits for Meada.

Home Run Pick – Odubel Herrera
